Visas (non-immigrant visas)
Unless visa exempt under the Visa Waiver Program, a citizen of a foreign country who wishes to enter the United States must first obtain a visa, such as a nonimmigrant visa for temporary stays.
Visas are issued by the Consulates. Some visas are issued only after prior approval from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), some can be applied for directly at the Consulate abroad. The issuance of a Visa, however, does not guarantee admission to the United States. Admission to the United States, changes or extensions of status are governed by the USCIS and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). As such, the date on your I-94 when entering the United States governs your authorized stay in the US, not the expiration date on your visa
